Key Insights
- Multiple networks, one token. BNB will provide gas fees, staking, and governance for the proposed ecosystem without a need for a new native currency.
- The speed is tied to “finality”. The 20 millisecond pre-confirmation target is not the final settlement, and thus execution finality is crucial when running applications that deal with irreversible transactions.
- Adoption remains unproven. The internal devnet shows development progress but will be ready for public testing, bridge security and for real-world performance.
BNB Chain is planning a Layer One that will launch a fast blockchain together with BNB Smart Chain. The new chain aims for blocks every 200 milliseconds and quicker transaction speeds. On October 26 Binance, co‑founder Changpeng Zhao, who many call CZ spoke about the plan. He emphasized that BNB Chain will keep using BNB as its token than creating a new cryptocurrency.
New blockchain adds capacity without replacing BSC
BNB Chain outlined the proposed network in technical documentation updated on October 22. The project, currently called New L1, targets applications that require low latency and predictable transaction execution.
CZ responded to discussion about the proposal on X with the phrase “Multiple chains, one coins.” His comment reflects the plan to operate multiple networks while retaining BNB as their shared native asset.

Meanwhile, BNB Smart Chain will keep supporting the decentralized finance apps, trading platforms and other services. The new blockchain will focus on high‑frequency trading on‑chain order books, real‑time payments, finance and agent‑driven apps.
BNB Chain wants to link both networks with a native bridge but that work is still going on. When the bridge opens users can move BNB from BSC to New L1 and back.
The documentation also describes a staking and governance arrangement through StakeHub. Users who stake BNB will receive govBNB at a one-to-one ratio. The non-transferable governance asset will carry voting rights when delegated.
However, the shared-token model does not guarantee higher BNB demand. Greater activity across both networks would need to translate into additional economic demand for the asset.
Transaction speeds drive the technical design
BNB Chain targets 200-millisecond blocks and transaction pre-confirmations within approximately 20 milliseconds. Its enhanced Parlia consensus mechanism uses BLS voting to target transaction-order finality in under one second.
These performance targets distinguish early transaction confirmation from final settlement. A pre-confirmation signals expected inclusion, but the network can revoke it before finalization. Applications handling irreversible transfers must therefore wait for execution finality.
Architecture is based on the separation of the ordering of transactions from their execution. This way, validators can achieve a consensus without waiting for all transactions to be completed.
Also, the multi-lane mechanism will ensure capacity for various transaction classes. The goal of dedicated capacity is to avoid latency-sensitive applications being affected by unrelated network congestion.
The proposed network also introduces shields for confidential transactions, account abstraction and parallel execution of EVM. Existing smart contracts for Solidity can be used, but a number of Ethereum RPC methods and types of transactions will not be supported.
Account abstraction will enable the following features: sponsored transaction fees, batched operations, passkey-based signing. These features could make blockchain transactions easier to handle, streamlining the process for users.
Financial applications shape the expansion strategy
The proposal comes as BNB Chain works on expanding its throughput on its current infrastructure. The new design is focused on providing dedicated infrastructure for specialized workloads, whereas its previous roadmap was geared towards execution speed and finality.
Tokenized financial products provide additional context for the expansion. A report published on October 23 placed BNB Chain’s third-quarter tokenized stock transaction volume at approximately $25.6 billion.
The report also cited around $1.13 billion in tokenized equity supply and approximately 1.8 million holders at quarter-end. Network transactions reached 1.51 billion during the quarter, while revenue increased 54% to $54.2 million.
Separately, BSC gained performance improvements from the August 25 Pasteur fork. Controlled tests revealed BSC throughput climbing from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second. I think this is promising. Those results do not prove BSC can maintain the same performance when the network is live.
New L1 therefore takes a path than simply upgrading BSC. A separate execution environment might grant trading and payment applications a predictable processing capacity. Still BSC practical advantage will hinge on real-world tests how many developers adopt BSC and the demand, on the network.
Public testing sets the next milestones
BNB Chain is now running New L1 on an internal development network, which has multiple validators. The devnet is utilized not just for block production but for end-to-end finality too and developers still test the devnet interfaces and core functionality.
The project is planned to launch by the end of 2026 on a testnet and the project will go live, on the mainnet in early 2027. These dates are still estimates; they are not release dates.
The project still has some parts that need improvement. The native bridge is not sufficiently complete and the shielded pool requires further security analysis and trusted-setup efforts. The current shielded pool is not recommended to be used to place real money, according to the BNB Chain documentation.
The next steps involve public testing, completion of the bridge, security testing, and even the formal name of the network. Developers will also have to consider the proportion of activity that’s split between BSC and the new blockchain.
